IRISH sporting great Packie Bonner and FAI president John Delaney opened a new state-of-the-art mini-pitch in Castlepark, Athy this week.
The all-weather mini-pitch, funded by the FAI and Athy Town Council under the RAPID programme cost in the region of 70k and was officially opened on Tuesday.
Young players from local areas will get to make full use of the facilities.

According to project co-ordinator Helen Dowling, the mini-pitch is open for all to use. It is hoped free football sessions and a soccer and basketball camp for youngsters in the area will run throughout the year
