Any thoughts on the report on child abuse in the Catholic Church?
The nine-year inquiry investigated a 60-year period.
Tens of thousands of children placed in reformatories, industrial schools and workhouses up to the 1980s.
2,000 plus told the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse they suffered physical and sexual abuse while there.
The report said that girls supervised by orders of nuns, suffered much less sexual abuse but frequent assaults and humiliation designed to ingrain a sense of being worthless.
The commission reports overwhelming, consistent testimony from still-traumatized men and women, now in their 50s to 80s.It had demonstrated beyond a doubt that the entire system treated children more like prison inmates and slaves than people with legal rights and human potential potential that in many cases was thoroughly destroyed.
The study concluded that church officials ignored ritual beatings and consistently shielded their orders' pedophiles from arrest amid self-serving secrecy.
After all this we are supposed to forgive and forget "after all the orders have paid their share of the compensation"
I for one find it impossible to forgive the organizations that allowed such terror and abuse to flourish.
Why have the leaders of this country found it necessary to insulate these organizations from the consequences of their actions?
